Europe is still one of the most popular holiday destinations among Indonesians. Apart from the different seasons and culturally rich destinations, Europe has a good public transportation system, making it easier for travellers to visit several countries in Europe in one go.
If you plan to visit Europe, especially Schengen countries, you are required to have a Schengen visa as an entry permit to visit a list of 26 Schengen countries during your travel. However, applying for a Schengen visa can be time-consuming due to the many requirements and documents that must be met. The demand for Schengen visas is quite high this 2023 compared to previous years, applications need to be done much in advance in order to get a Schengen visa on time.
Here are a few tips when applying for a Schengen visa, which could help you ensure a smooth fast visa approval for your trip to Europe:
1. Apply for schengen visa from the country with the longest period of stay
Before planning to go to Europe, you must apply for a Schengen visa through the visa application centre of the country that you are planning to visit for the longest duration. For example, if you are going to Europe for 10 days with a schedule of 4 days in France, 3 days in Germany, and 3 days in Italy, it is recommended to apply for your schengen visa through the French embassy or visa application centre. If you are going to visit several countries for the same period, You should apply for a visa through the embassy or visa application centre of the first country visited.
2. Submit visa application at least three months before departure
Visas processing time varies, depending on the embassy of the country where the visa is applied at, as the demand in applying for a Schengen Visa is fairly high. Finding an appointment or interview slot with the embassy of the designated country is usually the most time-consuming. Hence, it would be best to submit your application far in advance - at least three months before departure for better preparation.
3. Proof of Sufficient Finances
One of the main requirements for a Schengen Visa, is a financial proof that you are able to accommodate yourself or the designated traveller during the stay in these Schengen countries. This is usually assessed through a bank statement from the last 3 (three) months that needs to be submitted along with the visa application. Usually, each destination country has set a different minimum savings balance for travel visas. For instance, the Netherlands clearly states that the minimum amount of savings a person must have to apply for a Schengen visa, is 30 Euros per day. So if you intend to travel in the Netherlands for 15 days, then the minimum account savings needed to be in your account should be at least 450 Euros or around IDR 7,500,000. So far, no other countries have clearly stated a minimum savings amount like the Netherlands. However, this could be used as a basic guideline, even for Schengen Visa applications through other countries.
4. Have a Travel Insurance
Visiting Schengen countries require travel insurance with a guaranteed value of at least 30,000 Euros (around 480 million Rupiah) and covers risks related to COVID-19, including treatment and repatriation costs. Travel insurance must also be valid for the entire period of travel within the Schengen area. A copy of your travel insurance policy needs to be attached to the visa application, whilst the original policy could also be needed during the visa application interview session.
